In plain English: a woman who rated herself as an 8 chose men she perceived as 8s.

Melanie Klein said something about this, somewhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanie_Klein

I was in a psychology course many years ago and her name was mentioned.

She said something like, but my words really: people tend not to date above their fathers or get stuck at some invisible wall, maybe for earnings...

and the only way to change it was to do work on oneself.

Klein also suggested, as far as I know, that one can change this situation, mainly, by doing self development work!!!!

What I thought about, related to myself, is how I view myself and while it might be fortunate that I meet, get a job, better than a parent - if I don't change myself, then I fall back onto the original status...... things might work out. Let's face, love surpasses every thing.....

Maybe it is all bullshit, but...

This reminds me of the old saying, "judge a man by his deeds not his words." I don't think it's entirely a woman problem.
